Accreditation Status
The Postgraduate Medical Council, through the Accreditation subcommittee, recommends accreditation status to the PMCV Committee and through to the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria. The recommendations of the survey team are included within the survey report which identifies:
- Number of accredited positions;
- Details of accredited positions; i.e. type of position (medical, surgical, emergency, general etc.) and whether it is core or non-core; and
- Duration of accreditation; e.g.
- Three years full accreditation;
- Two or three years accreditation, provided specific recommendations are implemented within a set time; and
- 12 months accreditation, with or without any provisos; and/or
- Withdrawal of accreditation from certain terms or the health service as a whole.
Following the endorsement of the Council, the health service is advised in writing. The health service receives a copy of the survey report with recommendations and decisions and where a response is required; they are requested to respond within one month. The health service’s response is considered at the next Accreditation subcommittee meeting, when decisions are ratified and/or appropriate action is taken.
