This Orientation Manual  has been developed by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) with funding from the Department of Health for IMGs who are new to Australia and who are entering hospital-based practice in Victoria. It complements the Medical Board's compulsory orientation to professional practice briefing session and the hospital-based orientation of trainees to the workplace.

Content is aligned to the AMC Orientation Guidelines, and includes the following topics: Orientation to the Australian Health system, Communication and Cultural Safety, Orientation to the local jurisdiction, health services and facilities, Legislation and Professional practice and Living in Victoria.

The manual is reviewed annually via the consultation with a number of groups representing IMGs, employers and professional bodies. It is updated in May each year and is now currently in its 7th version.
