Aims: The JMO Welfare portfolio focuses on improving factors which can negatively impact on JMOs’ wellbeing. A new ‘Paging Protocol’ is being piloted at a several Victorian Health Service in an attempt to reduce the stress of inappropriate paging on time-poor JMOs. We have recently collaborated the AMA Victoria Doctors in Training Subdivision, to produce Guidelines for Internship Mentoring Programs as well as with ANZJMOC, the national JMO body, to explore the development of a ‘National JMO Wellbeing Study’.

The Victorian arm of the National JMO Welfare Study is expected to be approved by health service ethics commitees for roll-out in October/November 2011 to current interns. The 2011 Survey has been modified to enable identification of  potential workplace stressors.
