International Medical Graduates
Welcome to the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria’s International Medical Graduate web-site.
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) form a significant proportion of the prevocational trainee hospital workforce in Victoria. This has been recognised by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV), with the establishment of an IMG Subcommittee as one of its core committees to oversee the workforce and training needs of IMGs practising medicine in Victorian hospitals. The PMCV, with funding from the Department of Human Services (DHS) has developed a number of initiatives to support recruitment, orientation, supervision, assessment and early integration of IMGs.
This website has been designed to provide information and support for doctors who are interested in working, or are currently working in Victoria and who have obtained their primary medical qualification outside of Australia. The site is also intended to assist Victorian public hospital staff involved in IMG supervision and supporting roles, for example: Medical Clinical Educators (MCEs); Medical Education Officers (MEOs); Directors of Clinical Training (DCTs); and other clinical supervisors.
As at 1 July 2008, there are new national assessment processes in place for international medical graduates (IMGs) wishing to work in the Victorian medical system. Current information is available regarding Nationally Consistent Assessment for International Medical Graduates.
