International Medical Graduates
Working in Victoria’s Public Hospitals: An Orientation Manual for International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
This Orientation Manual has been developed by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) with funding from the Department of Human Services for IMGs who are new to Australia and who are entering hospital-based practice in Victoria. This complements the Medical Board's orientation to professional practice and the hospital-based orientation of trainees to the workplace.
Content is aligned to the AMC Orientation Guidelines, and includes the following topics: Orientation to the Australian Health system, Communication and Cultural Safety, Orientation to the local jurisdiction, health services and facilities, Legislation and Professional practice and Living in Victoria.
The manual is reviewed annually via the consultation with a number of groups representing IMGs, employers and professional bodies. It was updated in May 2009 and is now in its 7th version.
