Paediatric HMOs

Mildura Base Hospital has rotations available for Paediatric HMOs commencing Monday 8 May, 2017 through until 4 February 2018.     

Mildura Base Hospital is a 160 bed (Level 1) Tertiary teaching hospital.  The Hospital provides a range of acute services including emergency, maternity, intensive care, general medicine and surgery, medical imaging, pathology, dialysis, mental health (inpatient and community services) and a range of ambulatory services.

The Paediatric unit consists of 10 paediatric beds and 6 Special Care Nursery Cots (Level 2). The Unit is supported by four (4) Paediatricians together with five unaccredited HMOs.    Medical students of variable levels are attached to this unit from time to time.

Selection criteria

Essential

 

  • The position is available to Hospital Medical Officers registered in Australia
  • Medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) which is recognised for registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Must have completed at least one year in the Australian public hospital system (i.e. be at least PGY2 by the start of training).
  • Sound knowledge of and commitment to quality management, ethical practices and cultural diversity.
  • Competent in providing advanced life support measures
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team and independently as required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Working with Children Check

Desirable

 

  • Advanced or Basic Paediatric Life Support or EMST certification or equivalent
  • Department of Human Services Child Protection Training or equivalent
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching.

Surgical RMO

Mildura Base Hospital currently has 13 week rotation available for a Surgical RMO.  The dates for the rotation are Monday 8 May to 6 August 2017.

Mildura Base Hospital is a 160 bed (Level 1) Tertiary teaching hospital.  The Hospital provides a range of acute services including emergency, maternity, intensive care, general medicine and surgery, medical imaging, pathology, dialysis, mental health (inpatient and community services) and a range of ambulatory services.

The Surgical RMO is rostered to work Monday to Friday between 0730 and 1630 and is expected to take all referrals from HITH, Wound clinic, ED and the wards.    They will also be rostered to work 1 in 4 weekends on the surgical intern roster.

A minimum of 12 months Australian Hospital experience is essential in order to be considered for the position.

Self-contained hospital accommodation will be made available to the successful applicant at the rate of $180.00 per week.

Medical Registrar

Mildura Base Hospital is seeking a Medical Registrar (accredited position – Basic Training) for a period of 12 months commencing Monday 8 May, 2017.   

Mildura Base Hospital is a 160 bed (Level 1) Tertiary teaching hospital.  The Hospital provides a range of acute services including emergency, maternity, intensive care, general medicine and surgery, medical imaging, pathology, dialysis, mental health (inpatient and community services) and a range of ambulatory services.

Mildura Base Hospital’s medical unit has up to 32 beds with an additional 5 beds in the Intensive Care Unit.  There are currently 6 Consultant Physicians. 

The Medical Registrar will be responsible for patient assessment and management; communication of assessment / management decisions to other staff involved in the patients care; communication with the patient and / family regarding the patient's condition and management plans; maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation; coordination of diagnostic tests and consultations; arrangement of patient discharge process and liaison with GPs and other community care services to ensure the provision of optimal patient care to patients presenting to the hospitals.

Prior experience in general medicine is essential.
