Keep an eye on this page for information about this year’s centralised recruitment process for internship positions commencing in 2024.
The PMCV coordinates the Intern Match on behalf of the Victorian Health Services offering accredited Internship positions, and candidates applying for these positions. The Service is conducted at the request of the Department of Health (DH), Victoria.
Information about eligibility criteria, process rules and policies, Health Services’ Internship programs, and relevant updates will be posted on this page in the coming weeks and months.
Applications to participate in the Match will be via the Allocation and Placement Service. Important dates for this year’s process can be found below.
2023 Intern Match Vacancies
The matching process for the Intern Match is now completed. Candidates who have not yet received an offer of internship in Victoria are eligible via the vacancy management process.
Medical Workforce Units are extremely busy, we advise to not call during this time.
2023 Intern Match Webinar Series
PMCV, in collaboration with AMA Victoria, are running a series of webinars for Final Year Medical Students ahead of the 2023 Intern Match process.

2023 Victorian Health Service Information Sessions
PMCV would also like to advise that dates for upcoming Victorian Health Service information sessions are coming up!
Metropolitan Health Service info sessions will be taking place from Tuesday the 21st of March to Tuesday the 4th of April.
Rural and Regional Health Service info sessions will be taking place from Tuesday the 13th of April to Wednesday the 3rd of May.

PMCV are currently working with health services to get their session recordings. Once we have them, we will placing them on the page below.
2023 Victorian Rural and Regional Career Showcase
The 2023 Victorian Rural and Regional Career Showcase is taking place on Wednesday the 5th of April!
This showcase will demonstrate the offerings, career opportunities and pathways available at Victoria’s regional & rural health services.

Health Service position numbers released
PMCV to release document detailing distribution of health service positions to be included in the VRPA, Priority Group 1 and Priority Group 2 allocation rounds, respectively.
Please note that position numbers will be indicative and may be subject to change.

Video Interviews
Candidates to record video interview between 10am (AEST) Friday 9 June and 5pm Sunday 11 June (AEST).
These interviews can be undertaken in any location, at any time during this time period, you just need access to a laptop/computer or phone.

Health Service Assessment and Selection Process
All health services will conduct their assessment of intern applications from Monday 12 June.
Metro and some rural health services may conduct live interviews with shortlisted candidates at any time between 12 June and 2 July. Details of individual Health Service interview protocols are available on Health Service web sites.

Withdrawal/Preference re-order deadline

- Reorder / Delete Preferences (existing preferences only)

Eligibility Criteria
The following applicants are eligible to apply for an intern post in Victoria via the annual intern allocation and placement service administered by the PMCV:
- Australian citizens or permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens who are Commonwealth supported and domestic full-fee paying students, graduating from an Australian Medical School.
- Temporary resident students graduating from an Australian Medical School.
- Australian and New Zealand citizens/permanent residents and international full-fee paying students graduating from a New Zealand Medical School
- Graduates from an overseas campus of an Australian/New Zealand University accredited by the Australian Medical Council (i.e. Monash University – Sunway Campus Malaysia or University of Queensland – Ochsner Campus USA).
- Australian trained temporary residents (Victorian and interstate graduates) who have been sponsored during their medical degree, may only seek internship in Victoria if they have documented permission / approval from their sponsorship agency.
- Students from a Victorian medical school for whom residency status changes, from temporary to permanent resident, before the close of intern applications will be moved from Priority Group 2 to Priority Group 1 upon receipt of evidence to the PMCV that their residency status has changed.
The following applicants are not eligible to apply for an intern post in Victoria via the annual intern Allocation & Placement Service:
- All applicants who do not satisfy any of the eligibility criteria outlined above.
- Applicants who have completed their medical degree more than 3 years prior to the 2022 Intern Match.
- Applicants who have commenced internship in Australia but have not completed the requirements for internship within 3 years.
PMCV maintains its discretion to refuse to accept and include in the intern match in any year, certain applicants, pursuant to its Code of Conduct and approved policies.
Priority Groups
VRPA Priority Group 1
Australian citizens or permanent residents and New Zealand citizens graduating from Victorian medical schools including CSP and domestic full fee-paying students (i.e. graduates of University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University and University of Notre Dame: Melbourne & Ballarat Clinical Schools).
VRPA Priority Group 2
Australian citizens or permanent residents and New Zealand citizens graduates of interstate universities who meet the following criteria:
- Completed their Year 12 schooling in Victoria; OR
- Previously lived in rural Victoria (Modified Monash Model (MMM) – MM2 classification or higher) and worked in a rural healthcare setting; OR
- Graduates of the University of New South Wales who have undertaken their last two years of clinical placement at Albury Wodonga Health clinical school
Australian temporary residents graduating from Victorian medical schools (i.e. graduates of University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University and University of Notre Dame: Melbourne & Ballarat Clinical Schools).
Priority Group 1
Australian citizens or permanent residents and New Zealand citizens graduating from Victorian medical schools including CSP and domestic full fee paying students (i.e. graduates of University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University and University of Notre Dame: Melbourne & Ballarat Clinical Schools).

- Australian citizens or permanent residents and New Zealand citizens graduating from an interstate or New Zealand medical school;
- Australian temporary resident graduates of interstate universities;
- New Zealand temporary resident graduates of New Zealand universities;
- Graduates from an overseas campus of an Australian/New Zealand University accredited by the Australian Medical Council (i.e. Monash University, Malaysia or Ochsner).
