A Director of Clinical Training/Supervisor of Intern Training will follow the progress of the prevocational doctor across the whole of their clinical year. The DCT/SiT supports Term Supervisors, Clinical Supervisors and Medical Education Officers (MEOs) with:

Required Training

All Victorian DCTs and/or SiTs must complete Understanding the Framework and the AMC’s EPA module . Please contact your health service to access these videos or request access to the training resources here.
Please note that the mandatory modules must be completed within three years, however it is recommended that you complete them prior to the start of the2024 clinical year. PMCV will be monitoring the uptake of the modules with health services. The AMC’s EPA module must be completed prior to observing an EPA from 2025.

Improving Performance
If a concern about a trainee’s progress is raised by a Term Supervisor they are advised to refer to the local escalation pathways and resources and seek the support of the DCT and Medical Education Unit. You should help provide structure, and follow up with the trainee throughout the year using tools such as performance improvement plans.

If a matter relates to Cultural safety, or Indigenous Health, then consider partnering with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health professionals to support the performance improvement. Your health service may have specific units or individuals dedicated to this purpose, and if not, consider how you may advocate for them to do so.

Cultural Safety
All supervisors role-model cultural safety in practice. It is your role to continually improve your understanding of cultural safety, to engage the skills and expertise of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health professionals in your work, and to seek professional development opportunities related to cultural safety.
