The Australian Medical Council’s (AMC) revised National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training (NFPMT) will strengthen current supervision standards and emphasise observation, assessment, and feedback with the goal of continuous development for prevocational doctors.

As these standards are implemented from 2024, mandatory training for Victorian prevocational supervisors will be introduced through PMCV’s Prevocational Supervision Training Package. This training is designed to be easily understood and will need to be completed within three years of implementation of the NFPMT.

The package aims to support prevocational supervisors in understanding and fulfilling their role under the revised framework providing them with targeted learning relevant to how they will be supporting and teaching prevocational doctors at their health service.

There will be a total of seven videos released as part of this training package that will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the Framework
  • The Role of the Term Supervisor
  • Clinical Supervision
  • Beginning of Term Discussion
  • Term Assessments
  • Feedback
  • Entrustable Professional Activities – Created by the AMC (Coming Soon)

We will provide further information about what is included in each video in an upcoming blog.

There are many prevocational supervisor roles that will be more valuable than ever under the revised National Framework.
