The Health Service Representative (HSR) role has been reimagined and implemented in 2024 in collaboration with the PMCV in response to the AMCs new National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training. All hospitals have at least 1 HSR.
HSRs are prevocational doctors in PGY1 or PGY2 who are selected by each health services medical education unit (MEU) to act as a conduit between JMO Victoria, and thus the PMCV, and that health service. They play an important role in raising concerns about accreditation standards, prevocational doctor welfare and the implementation of the National Framework across Victoria inbetween 2 and 4-yearly accreditation visits by the PMCV. HSRs do this by attending meetings with JMO Victoria on a regular basis to report any concerns as well as keep up-to-date on this space and communicate changes to their peers, as well as acting as National Framework “champions”. As a near-peer organisation, JMO Victoria works closely with the PMCV to address concerns raised by HSRs while maintaining JMO anonymity if necessary and ensuring clinician welfare. This creates an additional escalation framework for accreditation and supervision concerns for all junior doctors in Victoria, including those in rural and regional health networks, after internal escalation.
Contact your MEU if you aren’t sure who your HSR is and want to raise a concern about accreditation or supervision. HSRs are recruited in February – March and have the option of two-year terms if the applicant is an intern and remains at the same health network.
