The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) administers the Allocation and Placement Service on behalf of the health services who offer Haematology Advanced Trainee positions in Victoria, Tasmania and Northern Territory, and to candidates applying for these posts. The Service is conducted at the request of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) Specialty Group Coordinator and Program Administrator.

This Match is for new applicants to Clinical (CHAT), Laboratory (LHAT) and Joint Haematology Advanced Training Programs (including Paediatric Haematology).

Existing Haematology Trainees (Victoria, Tasmania and Northern Territory) will be contacted by RCPA with instructions for reapplication.

CHAT – Adult

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into single discipline Adult Clinical Haematology Advanced Training.
  • Must have : MBBS or equivalent, Completed all BPT training time, Passed RACP Examination (Adult), Includes Interstate and NZ applicants.

CHAT – Paediatric

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into single discipline Paediatric Clinical Haematology Advanced Training.
  • Must have: MBBS or equivalent, Completed all BPT training time, Passed RACP Examination (Paediatric), Includes Interstate and NZ applicants.

JOINT – Adult

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into Adult Joint Haematology Training. Most Trainees will commence in a clinical position, but on occasion training may commence in the laboratory. Around 15 positions available for 2025.
  • Must have: MBBS or equivalent, Completed all BPT training time, Passed RACP Examination (Adult), Includes Interstate and NZ applicants.

JOINT – Paediatric

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into Paediatric Joint Haematology Training. Most Trainees will commence in a clinical position, but on occasion training may commence in the laboratory.
  • Must have: MBBS or equivalent, Completed all BPT training time, Passed RACP Examination (Paediatric ), Includes Interstate and NZ applicants.

LHAT

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into single discipline Laboratory Haematology Advanced Training.
  • Must have: MBBS or equivalent, Completed at least 2 years as a Junior Dr in Australia or NZ, Includes Interstate and NZ applicants.

Current JOINT or LHAT Haematology AT from Interstate/NZ requiring laboratory position

  • Successful applicants will be accepted into laboratory position in appropriate Training Program.
  • Must have: Requirements appropriate to Training Program (see above), Proof of current Haem AT position.

Interstate and NZ applicants: Joint & LHAT Trainees already passed Part 1 or CHAT Trainees in recognised Haematology AT Program should not apply through PMCV and should contact HAT@rcpa.edu.au as soon as possible for further application instructions.

Overseas Trained Specialist (OTS) (exc. New Zealand) will only be assessed if positions remain unfilled by local applicants. Details of RCPA requirements can be found in the reading material.
