2026 Paediatric Rheumatology New and Continuing Advanced Trainees Match

The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) manages the 2026 Paediatric Rheumatology New and Continuing Advanced Trainees Match for funded core training and non-core eligible training roles across Australia. PMCV coordinates the match on behalf of participating services and their respective Departments of Health.

This match is for training commencing in 2027.

Eligibility Check

  • I am an international trainee in Paediatric Rheumatology who does not reside, or is not eligible to reside in Australia and does not hold a valid working visa.
  • I do not meet the citizenship or residency requirements that may be set by an employing health service (even though the RACP itself does not require residency for trainee registration).
  • I am registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
  • I have completed all Basic Physician Training (BPT) examination requirements, unless the College has advised that an exemption applies.

Q. Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible, you must:

  • Be registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
  • Have completed Basic Physician Training requirements (unless otherwise approved by RACP)
  • Be eligible to work in Australia (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid visa)

Q. Are international medical graduates eligible?

Yes, provided you:

  • Are eligible for medical registration in Australia
  • Hold (or are eligible to hold) a valid working visa

Q. Will all applicants be interviewed?

No. Only shortlisted first time candidates will be invited to interview. All applicants seeking 2nd and 3rd training years will be interviewed.

Q. How are candidates shortlisted?

Shortlisting is based on CV assessment, referee reports and the eligibility criteria.

Q. When are interviews held?

Interviews will be conducted online by the National Interview Panel on 22 June 2026 (afternoon).

Q. What is the interview format?

It will be a semi-structured interview held online with the selection committee. It will last approx.15–20 minutes

Q. Can I choose my interview time?

No. You will be allocated a time.

Q. What happens after the interview?

Each service ranks candidates independently based on their interview performance, CV and referee reports.

How many referees do I need?

You must nominate three referees via the PMCV APS.

Are there specific referee requirements?

Yes. At least one referee must be a current supervisor and two of the referees should be from the last 2 years. Please note referees must not be members of the interview panel.

Q. Do I need to contact referees before nominating them?

Yes. You must confirm:

  • They agree to provide a reference
  • They are available during the application period
  • Their contact details are correct

Q. Who is responsible for ensuring referee reports are submitted?

You are responsible. All referee reports must be submitted by 5:00pm, 10 June 2026.

Q. How do I check if a referee report is submitted?

You can track the status via your PMCV APS application dashboard.

These are the status tags that appear under the referee’s name and details:

  • ‘completed referee report received’ – the referee report has been submitted
  • ‘referee detail entered (click save)’ – you have entered the referee’s details but not clicked on the save button at the bottom of the referee screen
  • ‘form sent to nominated email’ – the email request has been sent to the referee

Q. When will I receive my candidate ID?

You will receive your unique candidate ID once you commence your application in the PMCV Allocation and Placement Service (APS).

Q. Do I need to submit a CV?

Yes. You must submit a CV via the PMCV APS portal.

Q. When should I start my application?

You should apply as early as possible after applications open (10:00am, 18 May 2026). Early application is strongly recommended so referees have enough time to submit reports before the deadline.

Q. Do I apply directly to Health Services?

No. All applications must be submitted via the PMCV APS.

Health services participating in the Match cannot accept direct applications.

Q. When do applications close?

Applications close at 5:00pm, 10 June 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Q. Can I change my preferences after submitting my application?

Yes. You can add new preferences up until 5pm, 10 June 2026. Between the 5pm, 10 June and 5pm, 23 June you can reorder or remove preferences.

Q. Can health services see my preferences?

No. Your preference order is confidential.

Q. Do I have to rank all sites?

No. Only rank sites you are willing to work at.

If matched to a site you ranked, you are expected to accept and relocate if required.

Q. Can I apply to Sydney Children’s Hospital Network through this Match?

No. The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network is not part of the PMCV Match and requires a separate application.

Q. Can I change my nominated referee?

Yes, but only if the referee has not yet submitted their report. You must notify the referee if you remove them.

Q. Can I edit referee details after entering them?

Yes, referee details can be edited before submission of their report.

Q. Can I see my referee reports?

No. Referee reports are provided to PMCV on a confidential basis and will not be shared with candidates.

Q. Who can I contact to discuss questions about the application process?

If you have a specific question regarding the training program at a particular site then you may contact the nominated contact for that centre. The contact details can be found in the Health Service Directory on the Paediatric Rheumatology match webpage. Please note you should not contact or meet with any members of the selection committee (heads of rheumatology departments or their delegates).

Q. Why is my application status still pending? When will my application be approved?

Approval is not automatic upon submission. The PMCV team reviews each application to ensure all required information has been provided and that applicants meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the Match.

Approval times may vary depending on the volume of applications and enquiries being processed. All applications will be reviewed and processed before the final application closing date.

Q. When are results released?

Results are available from 10:00am, 26 June 2026 via PMCV APS.

Q. How long do I have to accept an offer?

You have 48 hours to accept or decline.

Q. What happens if I do not respond?

The offer will automatically lapse and be treated as decline.

Q. Will I receive more than one offer?

No. You will receive only one offer.

Q. What happens if I decline a matched position?

You will not receive another offer.

Q. What happens if I am not matched?

You will be notified by PMCV that you have not been matched but will remain on a ranked list and may be contacted if positions become available.

Q. How long is the appointment?

Appointments are for one year only.

Q. Is progression to the second year guaranteed?

No. You must reapply through the Match for subsequent years.

Q. Can I stay at the same hospital for both core years?

No. The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) requires core training to be completed at two different sites.
